FLORIDA, David Franklin - Age 83, of Linden, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Monday, June 9, 2025. Services will be held 12:00 PM Monday, June 16, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via David's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Pastor Sarah LaRose-Nettell officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday from 10 AM until the time of the service. David was born December 26, 1941, the son of Joel J. and Margaret E. (Couchman) Florida. Though most recently a resident of Linden for the past 6 years, he was a proud member of the Flint community for the majority of his life. He was a 1962 graduate of Flint Southwestern High School, and he was married to Janice Gay Burt later that same year. David retired in 1987 from the City of Flint Police Department after 22 years of service. He was a member of Genesee Masonic Lodge #174 F.&A.M., Elf Khurafeh Shriners, Clown Unit, Flint Flying Eagle Coin Club and Flint Antique Bottle and Collectables Club. He enjoyed garage and estate sales where he added to his prized collections of antiques and friends.
Surviving are: his wife of 62 years, Janice; children, David Franklin (Hanyi Dai) Florida II of Portage, Jennifer (Scott) Maker of Fenton and Julie (Wesley) Corrion of Linden; grandchildren, Morgan (Ryan), Collin, Kellie, Connor and Emma; brother, John Florida of Zephyrhills, FL; sisters-in-law, Karen Florida, Susan Wallace, Verna Florida, Carol Florida, Clara Florida and Judy (Ernie) Thompson; special nephew, James Florida and several other nieces, nephews and cousins; and 6 grand dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Margaret Florida; sister, Peggy Grove; brothers, Bill, Bob, Jim, Joe, Tom, Mike and Sam Florida. The family wishes to extend special thanks to his caregivers, Kalie, Tom, CeCe, Michelle, Clarrisa and Holli, as well as the lift assistance from the Genesee County Sheriff Department.
