Francisco, David C. – There’s a joyful gathering in heaven right now! After his long, full life, Dave would want his family and friends to find comfort in this. Dave passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026 at age 94.
Born in Grand Rapids on June 3, 1932, Dave was the son of Morgan and Emma (Boughton) Francisco. He married Janice Gregerson on February 6, 1954. Dave graduated from Battle Creek Lakeview High School (1950), served in the United States Coast Guard (1951-1954), and completed the Professional Accounting program at Davenport Business Institute (1957).
Dave was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved life. Over the years he was a proud employee at BHW Tool, Muir Drug, and then finally Kindel Furniture where he worked for over 25 years before he retired. Dave and Jan were longtime members of Second Congregational Church in Grand Rapids. They participated in their couples club for many years, volunteered as youth group advisors, and served on many boards and committees. Dave loved the Detroit Tigers, fondly dubbed as his ‘boys’, and any team that included one of his grandchildren on the roster. He had lots of interests, including reading, travel, spectator sports, card games, and a homegrown game called Kings & Queens. He also enjoyed playing in various basketball, bowling, golf, and softball leagues, where many lifelong friendships were formed and nurtured.
However, the lasting legacy Dave leaves is the example he effortlessly set for treating others with kindness, appreciation, interest, and compassion. Dave had a way of talking to anyone and making them feel truly important. Whether interacting with a lifelong friend or a new face at Russ’ or Meijer, he ensured everyone felt welcome and valued. Whenever someone needed a ride to an appointment or a job needed to be done at church, Dave made it his mission to assist. With a special twinkle in his eye, an attention to detail, and an easy way of adding a little humor, you always felt brighter after crossing his path. To be designated a “Good Doobie” by Dave was a high compliment. But unassuming as he was, he was one of the very best “Doobies” himself.
Dave was preceded in death by Jan, his beloved wife of 68 years, and his brother Bob. Surviving are his daughter, Diane (Dave) Wujciak of Fenton; son, Gregg (Jill) Francisco of Cicero, IN; grandchildren, Anna (Conor), Sara (Michael), Luke, Lara, and Nicholas.
On earth as it is in heaven! Just as Dave is gathering with many who have passed before him, we will also gather to remember and celebrate Dave’s life. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8 from 3:00 to 5:00PM at Sharp Funeral Home, 1000 W. Silver Lake Road, Fenton, MI. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 11 at 11:00AM at Second Church, 525 Cheshire Drive NE, Grand Rapids, MI. Visitation will also be held at the church from 10:00AM until the time of the service, or following the service until 2:00PM. Private burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
Those who wish to make a contribution in honor of Dave may do so to the Battle Creek Community Foundation [Memo: David and Janice (Gregerson) Francisco Fund]. Donations will be used to support education in the Lakeview and Battle Creek Public School districts.
