LAGUIRE, Deborah Lynne -- Age 68, of Swartz Creek, died September 2, 2014. Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday September 9 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Fr. Gary McInnis officiating. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Sunday, 2-5 & 6-8 PM Monday, and 10AM until time of service Tuesday. A combined K of C 3rd Degree Council 10170 and 4th Degree Assembly 0510 service will be held at 7 PM Monday. A combined American Legion, VFW, and AMVETS Auxiliaries service will be held at 7:30 PM Monday. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Deb's name to Carriage Town Ministries, The Wounded Warrior Project, The Salvation Army or Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Deb was born in Flint, on January 25, 1946, the daughter of Reginald and Vera E. (Schlosser) Hackett. She retired from GM/Delphi in 2002 with a career spanning 36 years as a secretary. She was a lifetime member of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Post 3720 and also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post 294, both in Swartz Creek. Deb was an avid reader, an artist and enjoyed working on craft projects with her friends. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with and having lunch every month with former co-workers she worked with at Chevy Manufacturing back in the 60's & 70's. Since 2006, Deb's Ministry to the Troops program led her to shipping over 700 care packages to our deployed military men and women who were far from home. With the help of the AMVETS, VFW, American Legion and many of her friends she would pack, ship, and send cards and letters to these military personnel. She was given awards and citations for her efforts and met many of the military people that she had sent care packages to and corresponded with. Deb is survived by her loving husband, Philip (Sarge); sons, Brandon (Carrie) Smith, Daniel Smith; step-daughters, Fay LaGuire, Gabrielle Huffman; step-son, Philip (Patti) LaGuire; granddaughter, Tess Huffman, Alexandra LaGuire and Margot Smith: sisters, Sherrie (Bill) Wiles, Laurie (Tom) Abdella, Kathie LePard; brother, Fred Lehr; many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: her dear aunt, Mrs. Thelma Covert. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
