Dennis Leo Conroy

Jan 8, 1939 — Aug 15, 2026

Holland, MI

Dennis Leo Conroy, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, August 15 of 2026 at his apartment in Holland, MI. He enjoyed visits with his family and some friends, laughed, and told of some mischief and good old stories in recent weeks. His family kept quiet vigil in his last days. He was 87 years of age.

Dennis was born on January 8 of 1939 to Leo Garrett and Dorothy Eileen Conroy. He grew up in Gaines, MI with his sister Lauretta Ann and his brothers John Robert (Bob), James Edward (Jim), and Joseph Michael (Joe). Dennis was a graduate of Gaines High School, where he enjoyed playing multiple sports, especially football. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and a good game of golf or cards, too. He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Helen Zwierzynski.

Together they raised four children, Lynn Ann, Michael Craig, Gregg Robert, and Bruce Alan. Dennis worked at General Motors' engine plant for 28.5 years until the plant downsized, and at the age of 48, they offered him an early retirement package. He also owned and operated a dump truck as a side-business.

Their move to Holland came later. After the arrival of their first few grandkids, they moved over and settled on the West side of the state, calling Holland their home ever since.

Dennis came to know of and believe in Jesus for his Salvation. His life story (like ours) was marked with broken places that the Lord’s kindness was at work to redeem and to use for His glory. The grace of God was evident in his life, as he served his church diligently, volunteering for years on grounds and maintenance crews, and many other areas of help. He always had a soft spot for his grandkids, and especially wanted to see Cody thrive. A special highlight for him was traveling to Russia for 2 separate trips to assist his friend and Audiologist, Dr. Ken Johnson with fitting children in need with hearing aids for the first time! Although his life story was in process...it is now whole and complete in Jesus, by the grace of God!

Dennis was preceded in death by his son Michael, his wife Virginia, and his daughter Lynn. Each of these losses brought home to him the value of the time we have, and to appreciate our loved ones more. He was also preceded by his parents Leo and Dorothy, his sister Lauretta, and his brothers Jim and Joe.

He is survived by his brother Bob Conroy, his sons Gregg and Bruce (Julie) , and his son-in-law Bruce Clark (Tammy Sullivan). Also, 12 grandchildren (including spouses), 9 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.
