Dolores Barnstead

Dolores Cherup Barnstead, 89, of Oakland City, IN, formerly of Detroit, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019, in Indianapolis. Services will be 5:00 PM Wednesday, February 13 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Interment will be 10:00 AM Thursday at Grand Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 PM Wednesday, February 13 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association. Dolores was born in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph C. Cherup and Rose L. Cherup (Smarsh) on January 10, 1930. She studied nursing at Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in January, 1951, and became a registered nurse. She married John Winfred Barnstead on February 2, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan. Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandson Jason, and her son-in-law Bill, husband of her daughter Rose. She is survived by her brother Joe, of Fenton, Michigan, her children John, of Bedford, Nova Scotia, Joe and his wife Mary, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Rose, of Sugar Land, Texas, and Patty, of Indianapolis, her grandchildren Alex and his wife Rachel, of Indianapolis, Meg, of Indianapolis, Ian and his wife Elizabeth, of Owensboro, Kentucky, Robert of San Francisco, California, Ben of Saint Louis, Missouri, and her great-grandson Kieran, of Indianapolis. Dolores loved animals and wildlife. She was a superb baker, a master gardener, a faithful, generous and thoughtful friend and neighbor, and a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
