In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Don may contribute to one of the greatest joys of his life — his grandson Noah and Noah’s future (checks payable to Noah Wright).

Donald was born February 15, 1942, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Homer Sinclair Wright and Loretta Elaine (Lewis) Wright. He remained close with several of his lifelong Bang Street friends, a testament to his loyalty and the way he nurtured relationships across decades. A proud graduate of Flint Central High School, Don went on to serve his country in Germany with the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, he attended Flint Junior College, where he played basketball, and later graduated from the University of Michigan–Flint.

He worked many occupations throughout his lifetime, most recently as a greeter at Walmart. He was so well loved that some guests would stop in simply to talk with him, even when they didn’t need to shop. His children and their spouses often said his true occupation was being a “Teacher of Life.” Don had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and uplifted. He loved everyone, and he always made people smile.

He loved coaching basketball, baseball, and wrestling, and he impacted countless young athletes on the fields, courts, and mats. Sports were woven into the fabric of Don’s life from his early days playing basketball at Ballenger Park to the many seasons he spent teaching kids how to compete with heart and character. That same passion became a meaningful connection with his sons, Matt and Scott. Whether it was talking sports, watching games together, sharing stories from his coaching days, or celebrating the teams they loved, Don’s relationship with his boys was strengthened through the games that shaped so much of his life.

For over 25 years, Don and Scott also shared a special tradition that brought him tremendous joy: every Sunday, the two of them went to a movie together. Week after week, year after year, it became their ritual — a constant in both of their lives and something Don spoke about with deep pride.

Surviving are: sons, Matt (Nancy) Wright of Palmdale, California, and Scott (Jennifer) Wright of Swartz Creek; grandson, Noah Wright; grand‑cats, Sammie, TK, and Emma; several nieces and nephews; and all of the sons and daughters who called him Dad. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Joyce Byrne and Barbara Bogard; and brothers, Kenny Wright and Larry Wright.

Don Wright lived a life that mattered — not because of titles, but because of the way he made people feel. His warmth, humor, and unwavering love will echo for generations.
