Donald R. WATSON

WATSON, Dr. Donald R. DVM - age 83, of Bancroft, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at The Chapel at Apple Mountain, 4519 River Rd., Freeland, MI. Interment will be held at Owen Cemetery in Saginaw. Visitation will be held 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Great Lakes Hospice or Sparrow Hospital Palliative Care. Dr. Watson was born April 27, 1930 in Saginaw, the son of Leon and Rena (Renwick) Watson. He was a graduate of Saginaw Arthur Hill and married Joyce Marie Leaman on September 10, 1949. She preceded him in death on November 13, 2009. Dr. Watson was a graduate of Michigan State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He owned and operated Eascor Animal Hospital in Flint for many years and served on the State Board of Veterinarians. In his later years he was an instructor at Baker College in the Veterinarian Technician program. He and his late wife, Joyce, enjoyed traveling around the world visiting Russia, Scotland, Turkey, Africa, Panama and many other places. They also performed charity work while in Africa and the Dominican Republic. He was active in the Republican Party, was past chairman of the Genesee County GOP, and served as a State of Michigan Delegate to the 1988 Republican Convention in New Orleans. Dr. Watson was a pilot (Cessna airplanes), enjoyed photography, scuba diving, fly fishing and had a love for Labrador Retrievers. Surviving are: six children, David Watson (Pamela) of Fredericktown, Ohio, Sharon Watson (Donald Loding) of East Lansing, Bruce Watson (Rebecca Rick-Watson) of East Lansing, John Watson (Marjorie) of Peyton, Colorado, Thomas Watson (Susan) of Novi, Sara Reeside (Shane) of Grosse Pointe Farms; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
