Doris Elaine Cherry

Doris Elaine Cherry, age 78, of Grand Blanc, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023 from complications of pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held 12 PM Monday, November 20, 2023 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd. Grand Blanc. Burial will be held at 2 PM Monday, November 20 at Great Lakes National Cemetery 4200 N. Belford Rd. Holly. Visitation will be held 2-4 PM and 5-8 PM Sunday, November 19; and from 11 AM Monday, November 20 until the time of the service at the funeral home. 

Doris was born September 5th, 1945, in Kennett, Missouri to Floyd and Edith Smithwick. She married John Cherry on November 27th, 1971; he preceded her in death December 17, 2014. 

Doris was a dedicated wife, mother, and Nana.  She treasured her daughters and embraced every moment she spent with them. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she especially loved being their “Nana”.  She loved spending time in her garden, baking, and always being there for her family and friends. Her generous, unselfish spirit and her heart of gold will be missed by all who knew her.  

Doris is survived by her beloved daughters, Shawn (Tom) Puzzo, and Shelley (John) Banaszak; grandchildren, Breanna, Ashley, Dakota, Avynn and Brynn; plus 5 great grandchildren; brother, Mike (Sharon) Smithwick; sister and best friend, Opal Wicks; and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved and cared for deeply; and her beloved cats, Willow and Graice. Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband, John; parents, Floyd and Edith Smithwick; brother, Jerry; and sister Diane.
