Huber, Douglas (Doug) David, age 69, of Swartz Creek, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide Street, Fenton. Fr. Robert Copeland celebrant. Interment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM followed by a ceremony by the Knights of Columbus. On Monday, Doug will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM. Mass will be live-streamed through Sharp Funeral Home. In memory of Dziadziu, we are accepting donations to help create an educational fund for his grandchildren.
Doug was born on February 21, 1957, in Flint, the son of Gordon and Joan (Etue) Huber. He married the love of his life, Rose Sordyl, at St. Pius X Catholic Church on July 1, 1989. After the closure of St. Pius X, they became parishioners of St. John the Evangelist. Together, over 37 years of marriage, they raised 4 beautiful children and dedicated his life to being a beloved husband, father, and Dziadziu.
Doug graduated from Powers Catholic High School with the Class of 1976. After graduation, he gave nearly 48 years of service to GM Flint Assembly/Truck and Bus before retiring in 2024 to become a full-time Dziadziu. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 598. He was also a proud 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Flushing Council 8489 and proud 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2211. He greatly enjoyed bowling and participated in the Knights of Columbus bowling league. Doug was previously an avid runner, but recently switched to enjoying his 13-15 mile bike rides. He loved building model cars, Legos, and taking on do-it-yourself projects. A devoted Detroit sports fan, he faithfully cheered on the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons, and the University of Michigan Wolverines. Above all, Doug treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Huber; four children, Olivia (Mike) Garontakos, Zachary Huber (Ashley Lang), Jacob Huber, and Sophia Huber and her significant other, Alex Trudell; beloved grandsons, Everett and Roman Garontakos; six siblings, Randy (Kathy) Huber, Debbie Weiss, Pam (Jim) McGuirk, Beth (Whitey) Rettenmund, Becky (Ed) Bruff, and Brian (Liz) Huber; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Denise Sordyl, Tina Montgomery, Char Sanborn (Lee Finkel), Matt Sordyl, Tony Sordyl, Paula (Dan) Kruszka, and Lew Clingman; and many, many beloved nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Joan Huber; parents-in-law, Henry and Henrietta Sordyl; brother-in-law, Val Sordyl; and sister-in-law, Cindy Clingman.
