SMITH, Douglas Glenn - Age 85, of Flint Township, died October 31, 2013 at McLaren Flint. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, November 5 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Pastor Joe Hall officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint . Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday, 10-11 AM Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Leader Dogs for the blind or Bair Lake Bible Camp. He was born February 5, 1928 in Elgin, Illinois the son of Donald and Huldah (Peters) Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Hazel Patricia Beck on June 5, 1948 in Flint. He retired from GM A.C. Spark Plug in 1985 with 35 years of service. He attended the Corunna Road Baptist Church. Doug loved to sing, he was a member of the Flint Arrowhead Barber Shop Chorus, and the Chorale at Carman Ainsworth Senior Center. His joy was spending time at their cottage at Lake Missaukee and time with his family. Surviving are: wife of 65 years Hazel; five children, Susan (Steve) Loree of Farmington Hills, Stephen (Elizabeth) Smith of Brownstown, IN, Laura (Clay) Perkins of Davison, Philip (Beverly) Smith of Owosso, Katherine (Jeffrey) Schanhals of Kentwood; 14 grandchildren; 17, soon to be 18, great-grandchildren.
