STORRS, Douglas LaVerne - Age 86, of Linden, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Fenton United Methodist Church, 119 S. Leroy St, Fenton. Pastor Jeff Jaggers officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Friday from 4-7 PM and Saturday, at church, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to Fenton United Methodist Church or the Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Doug was born March 19, 1940 in Flint, the son of Earl Clover and Madeline Ruth (Jacobs) Storrs. He attended Dewey Elementary, Emerson Junior High, and was a 1958 graduate of Flint Tech High School. In his teens, Doug worked for Walter Sala at Flint Amusement Park, which was across the street from his childhood home. He later worked at Hamady Brothers Grocery Store. Doug earned an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Technology from Flint Junior College (Mott Community College). After working at a Job Shop (Miller Engineering) as a Draftsman, he was hired as a Die Designer at Complete Design Service, before being hired by General Motors as a Die Maker Apprentice. He later was promoted to salary as a Mechanical Engineer. Doug retired in 1996 from Buick Motors Division after 32 1/2 years of service. He met his future wife, Wilma Bartley, at a square dance at Ballenger Park. He was president of the See Saw Square Dancing Club at Flint Junior College. They dated throughout the summer and while attending Flint Junior College. They were engaged on Easter, 1962 and were married October 20, 1962. Doug was an Associate Member of Central United Methodist Church and later a member of Fenton United Methodist Church. In 1984 he joined Westwood Heights Lions club (and later Fenton Lions Club) and was very active. In 1998, Doug proudly served as the Governor of District of 11D-1. Doug enjoyed yard work. He was very resourceful and appreciated a neat environment. He also created wooden lighthouses, windmills and model ships. Doug and Wilma enjoyed traveling to Germany, Alaska, Oregon, Japan, England, Florida, and several trips with Lions Clubs International.
Surviving are: his wife of 63 years, Wilma; daughters, Denise (Storrs) Nelson of Springfield, Oregon and Mary Storrs of Palmer, Alaska; grandchildren, Zachary Nelson of Michigan, Emily (James) Rader of Colorado, Jaylee (Maryrose) Nieman Nelson of North Carolina, Dot Nelson of Japan, Gabriel Nelson of Michigan, Hosanna (Evan) Wilder of Colorado, Jo Nelson of Washington, Sorin (Ace) Agony of Oregon, Charlie Nelson or Oregon, Mason Nelson of Oregon, Abigail Storrs of Alaska, Elizabeth Storrs of Alaska; 2 great grandchildren, Ember Storrs and Sophia Haines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Madeline (Jacobs) Storrs; sister and brother-in-law, Alberta and Earl Rayner; in laws Carl and Edith Dantzer, and brother-in-laws Gary Dantzer and Carl Dantzer junior.
