BREECE, Dr. Wayne Jay - Age 78, of Linden, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Fenton (The Mass will be live streamed and can be viewed via Wayne's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Fr. Robert Copeland celebrant. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Tuesday from 4-8 PM and at church Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the Mass. A scripture service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 7 PM. The burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center or Powers Catholic High School.
Wayne was born April 2, 1947 in Flint, the son of Burton and Donna (Strong) Proffer. He was a 1965 graduate of Flint Northwestern High School; he received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and his Doctorate Degree from Michigan State University. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army; where he received the honors of Purple Heart and Silver Star. He married Maryellen Megge September 26, 1980 in Detroit. Wayne had resided in Linden for the past 5 years coming from Flushing where he resided for 40 years.
Wayne was a cardiologist in Flint for 35 years, touching the lives of many with his warm bedside manner.
Wayne was an avid University of Michigan fan, enjoying many Saturdays at “The Big House”. He often joked that he “bleeds blue”. Wayne loved spending time at Torch Lake with family and friends, biking on Sanibel Island, and was an avid hunter.
Wayne was a man of integrity, kindness and generosity, and left a lasting impression on the lives of those who knew him.
He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
Surviving are: his wife of 44 years, Maryellen; daughter, Jillian (Robert) Mackey of Fenton; son, Christopher (Sarah) Breece of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Madison, Charlotte, Noah, Vienna, Brielle and Rhen; siblings, David Breece of Grand Blanc, Bethany Hall of Davison, Chris Breece of Davison, Jeff (Michelle) Breece of Davison and Mike Breece of Millington; Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton Breece and Donna Proffer; and brother, Greg Proffer. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
