Duane A. Haddon, age 96, of Waterford Township, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 11th 2025 surrounded by family. Duane was born in Holly Michigan on October 23, 1928 to James Haddon and Violet (Daughtery) Haddon. Duane married Norma Jean Lawrence in 1951 the same year he joined the Air Force where he honorably served for four years mostly in Yuma, Arizona and at Thule Airbase in Greenland. After his years in the service, Duane resumed his career at General Motors at the River Plant in Flint, Michigan until he retired in 1978. Duane was widowed in 1960 leaving him with four young children. He married Bernice (Stiger) Haddon in 1965. After retiring from GM, Duane worked part-time for another 30 years at the Community Presbyterian Church in Drayton Plains performing an array of custodial duties. Duane’s considerable mechanical aptitudes coupled with growing up on a farm enabled him to fix/repair nearly anything. Some think he may have been able to repair the Titanic with just duct tape.
He took great pride in owning and maintaining his 1991 Corvette and a 1947 John Deere tractor, the latter which he drove in a series of parades over the years. During his retirement years, Duane liked to eat breakfasts at many local diners and enjoyed socializing over a few beers at the Moose Lodge, the Eagles and the VFW. At times, Duane may have appeared a bit crotchety, but he was mostly a softie who graciously helped so many people in so many ways.
Duane is survived by his son John Haddon of Brighton MI; daughters Pam (Roger) Craig of Fenton MI and Kim (Roger) Klaason of Holland MI; and stepsons Tom (Kathy) Stiger of Pawcatuck CT, and Bill (Fumika) Connell of Stockton CA. He is also survived by sister Mary Kirk of Holly MI; grandchildren: Josie, Norma, Greg, Renee, Stephen, Shawn, Jeremy, Mary, Rob, Lisa, Ted, Andrew, Sam, Joey, and Jake; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews he was close to. In addition to his two wives, he was predeceased by his son Fred, his stepson Ted, and his brothers: Jimmy, Winslow, Don and Bert.
Arrangements were entrusted to Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. At his request, Duane wanted no funeral services. There will be a burial service with full military honors on Monday, June 16, at 2:00 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. A celebration of his life will be held on a future date. The family would like to thank Advisu Hospice, especially Eric, for their help and support during his final days. Donations in Duane’s name can be made to Moose Lodge which is dedicated to both social activities and charitable endeavors. Duane touched and enriched the lives of so many people; he will be missed immensely.
