Duane Johnston

Duane Johnston, age 72, longtime resident of Waterford, Michigan, passed away after receiving excellent and attentive care at John D. Dingell VA Medical Center.

Duane was a proud U.S. Army veteran who lived life on his own terms. He had a deep love for dogs and a lifelong connection to fishing. His time fishing created family stories that still get told today. Both of his sons inherited his love of the sport.

Duane is survived by his sons Chris (Erin) Johnston and Travis (Lindsey) Johnston; his grandchildren Lauren, Jack, Grayson, and Mack; his brother Don Menzer, and his fur companion, Rascal.

There will be no formal public visitation. A private family service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.

His family takes comfort in knowing that his sons were able to be together with him on his last day.
