Edgar Otto Schultheis, age 98, of Swartz Creek, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at SpringVale Assisted Living. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (A live stream of the service will be available on Edgar's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.) Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, Grand Blanc. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of the service Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring can direct memorial contributions to the Swartz Creek Lions Club or Swartz Creek Area Historical Society. 

Edgar was born on February 4, 1927, in Mundy Township, Michigan, the son of the late Otto and Ada (Edgar) Schultheis. He graduated from Mary Crapo High School, class of 1945. Following high school, he served in the United States Army as military police from 1945 to 1947, proudly defending his country during World War II. After completing his service, he attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. On December 2, 1950, Edgar married Fay Ikerd in Flint, Michigan. Together they built a loving family until her passing on February 7, 2022. 

Edgar had a long and fulfilling career, working at the Genesee County Road Commission for 37 years before retiring in 1991 as the Director of Planning and Special Services. His dedication to his work was matched by his passion for his community. An active volunteer, he enjoyed giving back in numerous ways throughout his life. His proudest accomplishments included being a life member of Hugh McCurdy Lodge #381 F.A.M., the Royal Arch Masons, Durand Chapter 139 and the NRA. He also held life membership with the Swartz Creek Sportsmen and Conservation Club and joined the Swartz Creek Lions Club in 1972. Moreover, he was a past member of the National Association of County Engineers, the Institution of Traffic Engineers, and the Genesee County Technical Advisory Committee. Edgar was also a proud member of the Swartz Creek American Legion Post 0225, Swartz Creek Historical Society and was a large contributor to the Swartz Creek Area Veterans Memorial. In his leisure time, he loved hunting, fishing, spending winters in Okeechobee, Florida, and summers at Wixom Lake with his family. He cherished the moments spent with his loved ones. 

Edgar is survived by his children, Gary Schultheis of Swartz Creek, Carol (Gary) Higgins of Corunna, and Scott (Tina) Schultheis of Midland; four grandchildren, Eric Higgins, Kelly (Ryan) Norton, Anna Schultheis, and Emily Schultheis; brothers-in-law, Lynn Ikerd of Wichita, Kansas, and Allen Ikerd of Swartz Creek; sisters-in-law, Gladys Ikerd and Donna Moore both of Bloomington, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his wife and parents, Edgar was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude (Homer) Braddock; brothers-in-law, Chad, Dale, Gene, and Larry Ikerd, and Carroll Moore; and sister-in-law, Mary Ikerd.
