Edward Lue Childs, affectionately known as "Chopper," age 77, of Saint Helen, formerly of Swartz Creek, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at 1:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

Eddie was born on April 7, 1948, in Holly, Michigan, the son of the late Weldon and Norma (Rapps) Childs. Eddie led a life marked by love for his family and unwavering dedication to his country. A proud United States Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1970. His military service instilled in him a profound sense of patriotism, and he cherished the opportunity to serve his country. Chopper was a life member of the VFW and was actively involved with the Swartz Creek Nazarene Church and the Durand Eagles Aerie 3851, reflecting his commitment to his community and camaraderie with fellow veterans.

Eddie graduated from Swartz Creek High School, class of 1966. He was a passionate sports enthusiast who treasured his time spent cheering on the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Tigers, and following the University of Michigan Football. His love for sports was only rivaled by his affections for his beloved dog, Buddy Ollie. In his downtime, Eddie found joy in collecting silver coins and baseball cards. Fishing was another pastime that brought him tranquility and happiness, allowing him to enjoy the natural beauty of Michigan's landscapes.

He is survived by his children, Carrie Childs, Russ (Misty) Childs, Lisa Reynolds, Sean Childs, Holly (Brian) Vickery, Jeremy (Kristina) Knight, and Jason Knight. Edward was also a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren: Tyler Childs, Danielle Reynolds, Chase Reynolds, Lily (Katelyn) Holderman, Ally (Julian) Piroli, Megan Childs, Kaidan Knight, Alec Knight, Mia Knight, and Serenity Knight. He is also survived by his twin sister, Betty; brother, David; and sister, Margaret. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jacob Weldon Childs; and siblings, Jimmy, Larry, Ann, and Jeff. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
