Edward (Ed) Hyypio, age 97, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM Monday, December 1, 2025, at The Rock Church, 11400 South Linden Road, Fenton with a subsequent service celebrating Ed’s life at 1 PM. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Fenton. Gifts can be given to The Rock Church or Argentine Church of the Nazarene in memory of Ed.
Ed was the youngest of 5 children born to Finnish parents, Axel and Ida (nee Heikkinen) Hyypio on Feb 29 (a leap year) 1928. He was raised in the small town of Tapiola, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Due to the large Finnish speaking community in the area, Ed did not learn to speak English until he started elementary school. He remained a proud Finnish American with strong ties to that community, culture and language. On January 19, 1951, Ed married Elvira (nee Burke) of Fenton, Michigan. Elvira preceded him in death in June of 1997. Ed was a former President of the Michigan Constable Association, serving Livingston County. Ed retired from Complete Auto Transit after many years as a long-haul truck driver. Ed was a devout Christian and remained active in his service to God for all of his days. He was well known for helping and mentoring people from all walks of life, and cherished his extended church family from several local churches.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Evelyn Allen and her children. Also surviving are his children Robert (Marsha) Hyypio of Lebanon, Tennessee, William (Sharon) Hyypio of Tapiola, Martha Hyypio-Irwin of Fenton, Phylis (David) Vasquez of Grapevine, Texas and Jennifer (Matthew) Mather of Flint. Ed’s large extended family also includes 13 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends; all of whom were blessed to have Ed’s influence and guidance in their lives.
