Edward Haggard

November 5, 1947 — March 7, 2026

Edward Haggard - also known as Jim or Cotton Top, was born on November 5, 1947 passed away on March 7, 2026 while surrounded by family. He was 78 years old. Jim was originally from Alabama, but grew up in Mattawan, near Kalamazoo Michigan. He moved to Genesee County, with his former spouse Shirley Haggard, prior to the birth of their 4 children where he met his best friend of 58 years Don Harrington.

Jim made a career at General Motors where he also retired from. Jim had a commanding presence, and a charming personality. He loved to run his beagles, hunt, fish, plant a garden, watch old Western shows, and go on long rides in the truck looking for deer. He will be remembered for his creative story telling and country sing- alongs.

Jim is survived by four children: daughters, Michelle ( Kermit Adkins) Haggard, and Tammie Withlow; son Doug (Leslie) Haggard; step-daughter Tammy (Dennis) Andritsis; and his eight grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Jim took the long way home, his whole life. Now the ride on Earth is over, but a new adventure in eternity has begun. There will never be another you, but the memories we share, will live inside our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Hammonds, and Charles Burns; and wife, Martha Ann Haggard; and son, Charles James Haggard.
