SWEENEY, Edward Neal - Age 79, of Swartz Creek, died Monday, January 5, 2015. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Monsignor Richard Groshek officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM, where a American Legion memorial service will be held 7PM Wednesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project. Edward was born July 21, 1935 in Swartz Creek the son of Basil and Leah (Goss) Sweeney. He was a 1953 graduate of Swartz Creek High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. Edward married Ethel L. Henderson October 25, 1958 in Swartz Creek. He retired from GM Chevrolet Truck Assemble. He had resided in Swartz Creek his entire life. Edward was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He also was a member of Swartz Creek American Legion Post #294 and Swartz Creek V.F.W. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ethel; 3 children, Timothy Sweeney of Swartz Creek, Terry Sweeney of Davison, and Tina Sweeney of Flint; 2 grandsons, Galen Sweeney of Davison and Braedon Macceomi of Flint; brother, Leo "Mickey" Sweeney of Swartz Creek; sister, Doris Welsh of Davison; sister-in-law, Virginia Sweeney of Westland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 5 brothers, Jack, Lloyd, Donald, Wilbur, and Patrick. Online tributes may be posted on the obituaries page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
