Edward Cecil WRIGHT

Wright, Edward Cecil Age 91, joined his Heavenly Father on Oct. 23, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 on Friday Nov. 1, 2013, at Sharp Funeral Home, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 11:30 until the time of service. Burial will be immediately following at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly MI. Pastor Jason Powers will be officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to the Columbian Christian Mission. Edward resided in Englewood, FL for the last 26 years. Prior to that, he was a resident of Waterford, MI since 1946. He was born September 5, 1922 in Hamtramck, MI, the son of Charles and Monica (Glantz) Wright. During high school he was a Lieutenant in the Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC), held his pilot's license and flew with the Civil Air Patrol. He was a machinist for Vickers in Detroit and sailed freighters on the Great Lakes before the war. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. After the war, he began a 22 year career working for his father at Wright and Filippis, building artificial limbs and becoming a Certified Prosthetist . After the death of their father in 1959, Edward and brothers Carl and Jim, established Wright Brothers Prosthetics and Orthopedic Appliances. In 1967 Edward joined General Motors until his retirement in 1984. While living in Waterford, Edward attended Drayton Plains United Presbyterian Church , where he served as an Elder. He was also a member of the American Legion in Florida and the American Merchant Marine Veterans. Edward enjoyed woodworking, art (painting and drawing), fishing and playing the accordion, organ and guitar. Surviving Edward are: his wife of 67 years, Viola; two children, Wayne (Linda) and Patricia Odham (Dr. Paul); four grandchildren, Tricia Chapman, Andrea Hardy (Toney), Kevin Wright (Rachael), Jessica Powers (Jason); and 11 great grandchildren. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
