Erwin Kunkel

KUNKEL, Erwin - Age 86, of Flushing, passed away Friday, September 5, 2025. A graveside service will be held 12:30 PM Monday, September 15, 2025 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly. Erwin was born April 4, 1939 in Poland, the son of Friedrich and Berta (Konetzke) Kunkel. He was a 1957 graduate of Bay City Central High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Ursula Porsch November 21, 1964 in Bay City and she preceded him in death February 22, 2022. Erwin had resided in Flushing since 2005 coming from 40 years in Swartz Creek. He retired in 1993 as a machinist tool and die after 30 years of service. He was a member of North Baptist Church and U.A.W. Local #659.

Surviving are: his children, Sylvia (Linas) Gilvydis of Sanford and Ken (Laura) Kunkel of High Point, NC; grandchildren, Katrina (Tyler) Sharp of Shields, Brandon Kunkel of Linden, Kennedy Kunkel of Linden, Alayna (Josiah) Coyer of Zebulon, NC, Austin Kunkel of Raleigh, NC and Aiden Kunkel of High Point, NC; sister-in-law, Karin Bude of Hamburg, Germany; brother-in-law, Eberhard (Uta) Porsch of Holzminden, Germany; and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Friedrich and Berta Kunkel; sister, Lucie Berthold; and brother, Richard Kunkel. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
