Evelyn June Murphy, of Flushing, passed away December 4, 2025 in Flushing surrounded by family. She was 89 years old.
Born June 3, 1936 in Flint, she was the daughter of Edward John ”Jack” and Mildred Irene (Peters) Maxwell. Evelyn graduated with Dye High School class of ’54 and attended Baker College in Flint. She retired on Jan 1, 1993 after 30 years of service with General Motors where she worked as an accountant in the Chevrolet Division/Inland Fisher Guide Division. Evelyn married John T. Murphy on October 15, 1982 in Flint, he preceded her in death on June 5, 2010. She was a member of the Living Word Church in Flint. She was a devoted wife, mother, Nanny and Nanny Great to her cherished family.
Evelyn is survived by her children; two daughters, Jari Sutton (John) of Charlevoix and Jill Poe of Flushing; a son Jeffrey Barney (Cameron) of Graham, NC; two step daughters Joann Cooper(Patrick) and Susan Jackson, two step sons John ‘Tommy’ Murphy Jr.(Kathy Arnold) and Steven Murphy(Jamie). Her grandchildren; Alison Trowbridge, Maxwell Sutton (Marin), Jacob Poe (Amanda), Justine Mehalic(Justin), Ella Barney and Jack Barney. Her step grand children; Kristin Leininger(Ryan), Jennifer Bohne(Mike), Lauren Burgett(Bill), Kaitlin Trentacost(Nick), Michael Jackson(Leah), Matthew Jackson(Aimee), Megan Murphy(Craig Delaney), John ‘Trey’ Murphy III(Michelle) Steven Murphy Jr.(Becky) and Christopher Murphy. Her 28 great grandchildren. Her beloved sister Margaret Kildee; brother Edward Maxwell(Jill) and sister in law Glenna Maxwell. Her multitude of nieces, nephews and extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John T. Murphy, a brother Arthur Maxwell and brother in law Jack Kildee.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 1:00pm at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Interment will follow at Bendle Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 from 3-8pm at the funeral home with a time of sharing at 7pm.
