RUBEL, Evelyn Marie, age 88, of Linden, Michigan, passed away October 30, 2026, surrounded by family. Evelyn was born April 3, 1938, in Mt. Morris, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Grace (Teeples) Brownrigg. She graduated from St. Matthew High School in Flint.
On April 12, 1958, Evelyn married John E. Rubel in Flint, and together they built a life centered on faith and family. They shared nearly 58 years of marriage before his death on February 28, 2016. While raising their five children, Evelyn also worked for A.C. Spark Plug Company for more than 20 years. She was a devoted member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for many years.
Evelyn's love for her family could be seen in the countless details she quietly took care of each day. Her home was always meticulous, and Sunday Mass meant everyone arrived looking their best, with clothes pressed, shoes shined, and Shorty's hair neatly combed. She cherished her children and grandchildren, and she held a particularly special place in the hearts of her great-grandchildren, who knew her simply and lovingly as "GiGi."
Evelyn enjoyed the familiar comforts of home, including Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Lifetime movies, and jigsaw puzzles. She also liked an occasional lottery ticket and a trip to the casino. Evelyn and Shorty enjoyed their many vacations to California, Arizona, Las Vegas, Hawaii and others. Whether caring for her family, keeping everyone in order, or enjoying one of these simple pleasures, Evelyn brought her own steady presence to the lives of those around her.
Evelyn was the beloved matriarch of the Rubel family. Her devotion to her family helped shape the generations that followed her, and the love, care, and traditions she gave them will continue to be felt for years to come. Evelyn was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by her family and by the many people whose lives she touched.
Evelyn is survived by her five children, Leeandra "Andy" (Tim) Badgley, John Rubel II (Aaron), Matt Rubel and his fiancee, Jennifer, Mike (Joy) Rubel, and Mary (Scott) Winchester; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Patricia Fearon, Joseph Brownrigg, and David (Kim) Brownrigg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Joseph and Grace Brownrigg; and her beloved grandson, Patrick John Badgley.
