Frances Jean Stevens of Burton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the age of 86.
Frances was born on October 13, 1939, in Rogers City, Michigan, to Frank and Regina Higgins. She graduated from Onaway High School with the Class of 1959. On May 28, 1960, she married the love of her life, Ronald Neil Stevens, in Onaway, Michigan. The two shared 62 wonderful years until Ronald's passing on March 5, 2023.
Frances was a mother to many in every sense of the word. She adored her children and grandchildren, and her love extended beyond her family. Throughout her life, there always seemed to be room for one more; whether it was a niece or nephew, a friend of her children's, or a neighborhood child in need. Caring for others came naturally to Frances. She helped care for her siblings while growing up and later devoted herself to raising her own children, welcoming countless others into her home and her heart.
As a homemaker, Frances took great pride in her home and family. Family meant everything to her, and she believed that family was defined not just by blood, but by the people you choose to love and care for. She was strong-willed and stubborn in the best, and sometimes most entertaining, way. Frances enjoyed rearranging furniture, redecorating rooms, and finding reasons to change wallpaper. She loved shopping, could rarely pass up a good sale, and enjoyed browsing thrift stores.
Frances had a wonderful laugh and a playful sense of humor. She knew how to push people's buttons and often did so just to see their reactions. Beneath her teasing nature was a genuinely good and caring woman. She was a devoted wife, a beloved mother and grandmother, extremely forgiving, and someone who gave grace freely. Throughout her life, she cared for people, and those fortunate enough to know her will remember how she made room for them.
Frances is survived by her children, Jackie (Jim) Korn, Ronda (Mathew) McGuire, Ron (Tina) Stevens, Kari (Stephen Scheib) Brink, and Jaime (Ryan) Locke; her son-in-law, Tom Durant; grandchildren, Sarah (Adam), Thomas (Amanda), Cody (Kate), Brian Andrew (Angela), Ashley (Nick), Adam (Kayla), Stone, Bailee (Dylan), Brody, Hannah (Travis), Kyle (Morgan), Silas, and Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Zach, Tinleigh, Adriana, Mekayla, Max, Shyann, McKenna, Noah, Amelia, Addilyn, Easton, Liam, Logan, and Carter; her sister, Rose (Don) Woodcock; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and all the children Frances took under her wing throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Neil Stevens; her daughter, Regina Ann Durant; her son, John Stevens; her sister, Sally Robinson; her brothers, Frank Huffman and Ernie Huffman; and her parents, Frank and Regina Higgins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to McLaren Hospice and Nurse Drita Nu for their compassionate care and for helping make Frances' final journey a little easier.
In accordance with Frances' wishes, cremation has taken place, and no services will be held at this time.
