Freda E. CLEVENGER

CLEVENGER, Freda Elisabethage 98, formerly of Swartz Creek, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 11, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Pastor Steve Maske officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until the time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church Flint or to the Charity of One's Choice. Freda was born December 3, 1914 in McGregor, MI to Karl and Katherine Schmidt, who immigrated from Susannental, Volga, Russia in 1912. She married Darrell L. (Doc) Clevenger in May 1931. Freda was a past member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Flint. She taught Sunday school and served on the Finance Board and Altar Guild. Most recently she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flint, where she served on the Finance Board and was Treasurer of the Altar Guild. Freda was also a member of United Commercial Travelers of America. She served as International President of Auxiliary in 1964. Freda worked for Masonic Temple Dining Room for many years, Aldens Catalogue Sales from 1964-1970, and was a cook for Phi Alpha Fraternity from 1971-1977. Prior to losing her eyesight due to macular degeneration, Freda was always busy knitting, crocheting, doing needlepoint, and many other crafts. She was a woman of great faith and was blessed with a great mind and sense of humor. She is survived by her step-daughter Darlene Davis of Port Huron; step-grandchildren, Debra Way of Port Huron, and Kerry Ferguson of Palm Harbor Florida; many nieces and nephews, including special nieces; Mary (Robert) Walker of Swartz Creek, and Ruth (Jim) Weis of Port Huron; and special long time friend, Ruth Langworthy of Asheville, N.C.. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell, her daughter Patricia A. Palmer, eight brothers and sisters, and son-in-law, Dale Palmer.
