SHOUP, Frederick George - age 93, of Fenton, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430, with Pastor Jake Gieseler officiating and with full military honors present. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until the time of service Friday. A committal service will be held prior to the memorial at 9:30 AM on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to The Medical Team Hospice.
Frederick “Fred” was born January 10, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Frederick E. and Gladys (Semaude) Shoup. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1956. Following his military service, Fred married Carol Barker on February 23, 1957, at Epiphany Catholic Church. He retired from Unisys after 28 years of employment as an electronic technician. Fred and Carol were long-time residents of Canadian Lakes and former members of Brighton VFW Post 4357. In his free time, Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and gambling of all kinds, including poker, card games, and horse racing.
He is survived by his five children: Cheryl (Rick) Waldchen, Mark (Tonia) Shoup, Laurie Davis, Karen (Kenneth) Pilarski, and Connie Shoup; eight grandchildren: Zachary (Jeanine) Shoup, Savannah Waldchen (Noel Gingerich), Laura (Steve) Vincenzi, Matthew Pilarski, Lily Shoup (Thomas Westerkamp), Morgan (Steve) Aravas, Leah Carlson (John Plautz), and Drew Davis; and several great-grandchildren: Kevin, Alex, Addison, Madisyn, Athina, and Aidan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his parents; son-in-law, Donald Davis; and two siblings, Joyce Sanko and Les Shoup. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
