Fredrick James Kranz

Kranz, Frederick James - Age 85, of Flint Township, died May 29, 2026. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. The funeral may be viewed via livestream from at link at Mr. Kranz's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint, Michigan. Visitation will be held 4 - 8 PM Wednesday, June 3; and 10 AM until the time of the funeral at 11 AM on Thursday June 4.

Frederick James Kranz was born in Flint Township/Swartz Creek, Michigan, on September 30, 1940. He was the son of Charles "Charlie" Kranz and Josephine (Gilbert) Kranz. Fred was the youngest of three sons along with the oldest, William "Bill" and Robert "Bob". He worked on the family dairy farm until his mid-twenties when he started working for General Motors, retiring in 1996. He married Karen Metzger (Kranz) on March 28, 1964. They had 2 children, Kristy and Tim and he was the Grandfather "Bompa" to Colton Beren and Cara Beren.

Fred was an incredibly hard worker, was always willing to help others, and he was always quick to tell stories (even if you didn't want to hear them). He had two gears, go and stop. When he wasn’t at work or with his family, he welded, restored antique tractors, plowed gardens, cut fire wood, mowed lawns and rode his bicycle. He rode his bicycle several miles a day, all year round stopping daily at Burger King, Genesee Valley Mall, Biggby Coffee, and Mancino's.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, niece, and several close friends and family members. He is survived by his daughter, son, grand children, great grandson, several close family and extended family members, and friends.
