Gail Camille (Sergi) Gibson was born in Detroit on July 7, 1945, to Julia (Grace) and Floyd Sergi. She was the youngest of three daughters. She was preceded in death by her sister Charlene and is survived by her oldest sister, Valerie.
Gail met the love of her life, Jim, at a house party in Detroit. She was walking upstairs from the basement as he was walking down, carrying a case of beer. From that moment on, they were inseparable. They remained devoted to one another until Jim’s death on February 18, 2015. They shared a wonderful marriage of 52 years and gave their three children—Dawn (Chuck) Dittmar, Jeff (Kelly) Gibson, and Tracy Gibson—a loving and happy childhood.
That love continued to grow through their grandchildren: Camille (Lonnie) Meadows, Drake Gibson, Emily (R.J.) Dittmar, Cameron Gibson, Riley Gibson, Fionna Gibson Dunlop, and Fox Gibson Dunlop. Gail was also fortunate to know and enjoy the love of her two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Gianna Meadows.
To know Gail was to love and admire her. She was kind, loving, and patient with everyone, whether you were a lifelong family member or friend or simply someone who passed through her life for a brief time. She had a way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for.
Gail was an artist, and oils were her favorite medium. Her home is filled with her paintings. She created art simply for the joy it brought her, and her family is grateful that she left behind this beautiful legacy for us to enjoy and pass down through the generations.
Beyond painting, Gail loved to dance and especially enjoyed reconnecting with old friends at reunions from her days at Cody High School in Detroit.
We will miss her smile, her hugs, her generosity, her attention, and, most of all, her love. Her family will do our best to move through the world as she did—with love.
In memory of Gail, memorial contributions may be made to Adopt a Pet.
