Gary Edmond Henry
Gary Henry -- passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026. He was born to Gordon and Hollis Henry on June 19, 1943 in Jackson, Michigan. Gary grew up in Pontiac, where he graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1961. He completed his undergraduate studies at Michigan State University and went on to earn his Masters and Specialist degrees in education from the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University.
Gary’s professional career began as a history teacher with Flint Community Schools, then as a guidance counselor with Grand Blanc Community Schools for 33 years. He took pride in helping his students navigate school life and plan for their futures.
Gary and Julie, his wife of 51 years, established their home in Grand Blanc. Together, they raised son, Scott, and daughter, Amy, and built a life filled with family, friends, travel, and adventure. Long before the Internet, Gary meticulously planned fun and educational road trips throughout the United States that included national parks, historical sites, and learning opportunities. Those trips created cherished memories that his family treasures to this day. Summers were spent at their cottage on Stony Lake. Gary loved an active lifestyle and was dedicated to fitness. He enjoyed water and snow skiing, tennis, and golf. When he retired in 2001 he joined Genesys Athletic Club where he played tennis, practiced yoga, and committed to a daily exercise plan.
Early in 2020, Gary suffered a stroke that gradually limited his ability to participate in many of the activities he loved. However, he faced these changes with a positive attitude and sense of humor.
Gary is survived by his wife Julie; son, Scott (Amanda); daughter, Amy; sister, Myrla (Tom) Brand; brother in law Gregg (Maureen) Modrack; nieces and nephews, Eric (Sherry) Brand, Laura (Andy) Fick, Tara (Rich) Williams and Heather (Kevin) Adams and their children. The family will receive friends at Sharp Funeral Home, 6063 Fenton Road in Grand Blanc on November 10, 2026 from 3-8 pm. A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers you may wish to make a memorial contribution to the Grand Blanc Education Foundation. Special thanks to the staff at Brookdale Memory Care and the team at Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
