Gary Penn

PENN, Gary Ross - Age 88, of Fenton, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023.  Per Gary's request cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date.

Gary was born July 28, 1934, in Ann Arbor, the son of Ross Garrett and Irene Mae (Godfrey) Penn and brother of Carol Burns; which all preceded him in death. Gary attended Ann Arbor High School and served in the U.S. Army after graduation. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. At 24 years old, he married Joanne Marie Underhill in South Lyon, MI, who preceded him in death on November 20, 2012. They moved to California, where he took a position with Lockheed Aerospace Corporation, working with Satellite Deployment Systems, later returning to Michigan to join General Motors. Gary lived in Fenton, MI, since 1974 and retired from the General Motors Milford Proving Ground in the Noise and Vibration Laboratory after 35 years of service. He was an active motorsports participant and fan throughout his life. Gary was an active retiree and lived independently until the very end. He made annual trips to West Virginia to attend deer camp with long-time friends as well as trips to California to spend time with family and friends every winter. He enjoyed building and fixing everything imaginable and was always ready to help anyone in need. Gary's life was filled with family and friends who loved him.

He is survived by his son, Gary B., and Bethany (Sandborn) Penn; daughter, Su Penn; grandchildren, Taylor Penn, Garrett Penn, Oscar Penn, Athena Dierauer, Carl Dierauer, and Yev Dierauer; and a dear friend since High School, Angie Maas Miller.
