Gary Whiteford

Whiteford, Gary Allen passed away on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at the age of 83. After several years of battling pulmonary fibrosis, Gary’s health declined until he passed peacefully in his sleep. At the time of death, he was surrounded by the care and adoration of his three daughters and their families. A burial will be held on March 22nd at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will be held this June.

Gary was born on December 15th, 1939 to Margaret Ellen Harrod and Harold Thomas Whiteford in Flint, Michigan. Although he was an only child, he found great companionship in his parents as well as several cousins. Gary attended Flint Junior College whereby he earned an Associates of Electrical Technology. Gary then moved to Kalamazoo to attend Western Michigan University where he lived in Henry Hall for four years and received a Bachelor of Science in 1964. Upon graduation, he moved back home to Flint where he began his lifelong career of Machine Repair Machinist at General Motors. He retired in July of 2001 after 36 years of service.

Gary is described fondly as a kind and gentle man. He loved to dance, listen to music (especially Elvis), drink root beer floats, and collect coins. He absolutely loved traveling up north to East Jordan and Charlevoix because of his childhood memories of spending the summers at his grandparents and parents home.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his three daughters Jody (Whiteford-Sidles), Lori (Tony Montpas), and Christine (James Sotiroff); nine grandchildren Heather, Megan, Matthew, Stephanie, Richard, Zack, Nick, James, and Phoebe; three great-grandchildren Tyler, Lizzie, and Alexander.
