Gerald HUNGERFORD

HUNGERFORD, Gerald L., of Swartz Creek, age 82, died Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Caretel Inns of Linden. Alzheimer's disease was the cause of his failing health over the past several years. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 29 at First Presbyterian Church in Flint. Rev. Paul Ytterock officiating. Cremation has already taken place. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 28, from 2:00 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 9:00 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, and Monday at the church, following the service with refreshments. Memorials gifts may be directed to Crossover Outreach Ministries or Carriage Town Ministries in Flint. He is survived by Susan, his wife of 47 years, four children and five grandchildren: Raeanne Kummer and son Stephen of Conover, NC; Barbara Hungerford of Dewittville, NY; Brian (Veronique) Hungerford and children, Morgan and Graham of Grand Blanc, MI; and Thomas (Ami) Hungerford and children Drew and Samuel of Wyoming, MI. In addition, Jerry is survived by brother Dale (Regine) Hungerford of Baxter, MN; sister Nancy (Don) Lewis of Webster, NY, sister-in-law Shirley Hungerford of Layton, UT, and eleven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Wayne Hungerford, sister Joanne Windle, and daughter-in-law Meredith (Bishop) Hungerford. Jerry was born June 15, 1928 in Flint, MI to Nelson & Freda Hungerford who preceded him in death. Jerry worked for the City of Flint for 28 years and was an Appraiser and Right-Of-Way buyer. He was involved in the acquisition of the property for the University of Michigan-Flint campus and Buick City. He later was employed by the State of Michigan and the Genesee County Road Commission. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp., National Guard, and U.S. Army. He was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church in Flint, having served as a deacon, elder, usher and member of the Men's Chorus.
