TRETHEWAY, Gerald R. "Gerry" "Roy" - Age 92, of Swartz Creek, formerly of Port Huron, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday November 29, 2016 at United in Christ Lutheran Church, 6330 Corunna Road, Flint. Pastor Stephen Stahlhut officiating. Burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held 2PM-8PM Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel 8138 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek. Family will also greet friends 9:30AM until time of service Tuesday at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to Kiwanis Club of Port Huron or United in Christ Lutheran Church. Gerald was born in Cornwall, England on May 1, 1924, the son of William Thomas and Florence (Powell) Trethewey. He married Doralee Hanchett of 65 years on June 21, 1947 in Garden City, MI and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2012. Gerry came to the U.S. at the age of 2. He attended and graduated from Henry Ford Trade School. Mr. Tretheway joined the Army in 1942 at the age of 18. During his service in WWII, he was in England, Belgium, France, Germany, and Japan. He was part of the invasion force on D-Day, Omaha Beach, Normandy. Gerry was a life long member of Kiwanis spending countless hours in community service and helping children's charities. He never met a stranger and had many very strong friendships all over the US. Mr. Tretheway enjoyed spending time with his wife, his family, music, eating chocolate, traveling, helping children who were sick or handicapped. Surviving are son, Brian (Denise) Tretheway of Swartz Creek; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one sister.
