BERTOVICK, Geraldine Eileen - age 99, of Gaines, formerly of St. Clair Shores, died Saturday, February 10, 2018. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Fenton, 503 S. Leroy St., Fenton with Rev. Robbie Carnes officiating. A private interment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Visitation will also be held 12 PM - 1 PM Wednesday at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Special Olympics or Kindred Hospice. Gerry was born November 18, 1918 in West Branch. She graduated from Central State Teacher's College (Central Michigan University) in 1941 and was a devoted and highly respected educator her entire life. She began her career in her hometown of West Branch. After five years she accepted a teaching position at Saginaw High School where she taught English and coached debate and forensics. She received her Master's degree from the University of Michigan. After 10 years in Saginaw she moved to East Lansing for a doctorate program at MSU where she also taught at the University. In 1958, she moved to St. Clair Shores and taught Forensics, Debate and Discussion at Grosse Pointe South and was a school counselor. She was very active in the Student Exchange Program for 22 years. Gerry retired from Grosse Pointe North in 1986 after 43 years of teaching. She continued to teach after retirement at Wayne County Community College until she was 84 years old. Gerry was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and served in many leadership roles. She loved antiques and has a large antique doll collection. Gerry also loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She was a dedicated educator and devoted to her family. Surviving are: daughter, Georgiann and husband Rich Tunningley; grandchildren, Heather and husband Eric Guernsey, Tracey and husband Raed Sahouri, Tyler and wife Marie Tunningley; 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents, William and Agnes (Bennett) Tulloch; and her husband, George L. Bertovick in 2006. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
