KAPLAN, Gilbert David - age 91, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2015. He was born in Flint, graduated from Central High School, and served in World War II. After his return to Flint from the war, he started Lewis Street Market with his father, and operated it for more than thirty years. Gilbert was a life-long member of Congregation Beth Israel and enjoyed attending many synagogue activities including minyan. He loved spending time with his family and was a knowledgeable sports fan. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Lenore; sons, Jeffrey and wife Helayne of Bloomfield Hills, and Edward and wife Debbie of Houston, TX; daughters, Marlene and husband Albert Negrin of Richmond, VA and Susan and husband Robert Cohen of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Carly, Marissa, and Jeremy Kaplan, Sarah and David Negrin, and Megan Keller. Gilbert was the son of Isidore and Sadie Kaplan and preceded in death by brothers, Herman and Lawrence and sister, Naomi Siegel. Services will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek on Monday March 9 at 1:30 PM with burial following at Machpelah Cemetery. The family will be gathering through the evening of Wednesday, March 11 at the residence for friends to call - 6427 Western Way, Flint, Mi. 48532. The phone number is 810-732-5374.
