HUBER, "Gordie" Gordon, Lewis -- Passed away peacefully to his Lord and Savior surrounded by the love of his family on March 24, 2017 at the age of 92. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 PM on Monday March 27, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church at G-3139 Hogarth Ave in Flint. Fr. Anthony Strouse Celebrant. Interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A Rosary will be held at 7 PM Sunday followed by a Knights of Columbus Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make contributions may do so to Brian Huber to provide special blessings to caregivers who selflessly attend to those who are ailing with dementia. Gordon was born December 25, 1924 , the son of Frank and Mamie Huber. He married Joan Etue on August 26, 1950 and lovingly they raised seven children: Randolph (Kathleen) Huber, Deborah Weiss, Pamela (James) McGuirk, Bethany (Whitey) Rettenmund, Douglas (Rose) Huber, Rebecca (Edward) Bruff, and Brian (Elizabeth) Huber. He was a devoted and loving grandfather to 24 grandchildren: Matthew (Jennie) Huber, Lance (Katie) Huber, Landon (Meredith) Weiss, Abbey (Dee) Lamb, Tyler Weiss, Christina (Chris) Wascha, Anthony, Gina, and Ashley Ragnone, Jimmy and Joe McGuirk, Kelsey (Chris) Wills, Lindsey (Nick) Debernardi, Shannon (Brandon) Tomlinson, Whitney (Anthony) Stutso, Olivia and fiance' Mike Garontakos, Zachary, Jacob, and Sophia Huber, Nathan (Katie) Bruff, Karlee and Mariah Bruff, Rylee and Karsyn Huber. Gordie's legacy includes 16 great grandchildren who were the apple of his eye; Jace and Blake Huber, Hudsyn Lamb, C.J., Callie, and Cole Wascha, Zander and Cami Wills, Lawsyn, Blakely and Finley Debernardi, Ryker, Easton, and Hadley Tomlinson, Vinn Stutso , and Russell Bruff. Gordie was a devoted father and family man. His family extended into four generations. He was a 1943 graduate of St. Michaels School in Flint. He is a World War II Veteran serving from 1943 through 1945. He received an Honorable Discharge along with a Purple Heart and two Bronze stars for his service to our country. He was a former McDonald Dairy milkman, and retired from General Motors in 1985. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus #695. He enjoyed bowling on the K of C League for years and loved watching his sons bowl every week. He mastered chocolate candy making and was known as the Candy Man. He spent many years creating beautiful needle points with impeccable precision. He loved celebrating his Christmas birthday with his family. He was admired for his rendition of "You are my Sunshine" which he sang to his wife Joan. Gordie was a simple man known for his integrity and gentlemanly conduct, patience, and kindness. He was a friend to all. He is survived by his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan, his parents and four brothers. The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks of gratitude to our special caregivers for the past few years, Priscilla Dodd, Vickie Asselin, Debbie Gubanche, Ann Wates, Betsy McGlauflin, Merrianne Rodgerson and our dear and special family friend Sandy Groth. The family would also like to thank Chris and Vicki Kelly at Victoria's House and their wonderful staff for their devotion, love and special care.
