AURAND, Helen Harriet -- Age 99, of Gaines, died January 18, 2017. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday January 23 at Gaines United Methodist Church, 117 Clinton Street, Gaines. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Gaines. Visitation will be 1-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, and 11:30 AM until time of the funeral at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Gaines United Methodist Church or Gaines Lions Club. Helen was born December 15, 1917 in Gaines the daughter of Daniel and Alma (Brown) Dolehanty. She was a lifelong resident of Gaines. Helen was a 1936 graduate of Gaines High School. She married Herbert A. Aurand September 3, 1940 in Gaines; he preceded her in death on December 1, 1996. She was employed at Gaines Elementary School as an Educational Aide. She was a member of Gaines United Methodist Church since 1940, and a member of the Ladies Circle and Choir for many years. She was a member of the Gaines Community Club, and Pedro Card Club. Helen enjoyed sewing, flower gardening and birds. She is survived by her son, David (Helen) Aurand of Grand Blanc, daughter, Jo Ann Pobocik of Midland; daughter in law, Sandy Aurand of Gaines; 9 grand children, Dinah, David, Michael, Lisa, Todd, Angela, Jacob, Peter and Luke; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; sister, Ruth Bennetts of Essexville; brother, Paul Delehanty of Houston TX; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, of 56 years Herbert; infant son, Roger; son Thomas; sister, Thelma Brady; brothers, Stephen, Max, Leo, Lawrence, Clement and Harold. To the Angels in our family Marie Dolehanty and Dinah Salinas, we are eternally grateful for your loyal and faithful support in the care of our mother. In addition we wish to express deep gratitude and thanks to the leadership and staff of the Genesee Care Center and the staff at Medilodge of Montrose for their love and care over the years.
