Helen Louise Bugis, of Hartland Township, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at her home with her family at her side. She was 96 years old.
Born April 4, 1930, in Livingston County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Madaline (Trollman) Jozwik. She was a life-long resident of Livingston County and Hartland Township other than wintering in Florida. Helen married Anthony John Bugis Jr. on June 10, 1950, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. She loved gardening, flowers, canning and loved to play cards. Helen volunteered working elections for 37 years, served on the Hartland Planning commission for 7 years and was a member of HIP (Hartland Important People). She was a member of St. John the Evangelis Catholic Church as well as a member of St. Catherine’s Guild.
Helen is survived by her children, Mary Jo Kowall (Joel), Roseanne Bennett (Harold), Edward Bugis (Penny), and Anthony B. Bugis (Rosemarie); son in law Gerald Ross; nine grandchildren, Madeline Tabor (Joe), John Paul Ross, Stephanie Jo Hilliard (Kevin), Spencer and Sterling Bennett, Colton Bugis, Eva Eiden (Carter), A.J. Bugis (Deanna) and Tyson Bugis (Kara); great grandchildren Joe Anthony Tabor, Luella Tabor, Emmaline Tabor, Emily Jo Hilliard, Lilly Hilliard, Brady Hilliard, Anthony Bugis Jr., Jase Bugis, Ella Bugis, Leila Bugis, Skylar Bugis and Weston Bugis as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Anthony John Bugis Jr., one daughter Diane Ross, a son John Bugis, 2 brothers Joseph and Frank Jozwik and two sisters Patricia Adamaitis and Alice Haddad.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 11:00 am at Chapel of the Holy Innocents at St. John Catholic Church, 600 Adelaide St. Fenton, with Father David Harvey officiating. There will be visiting from 10:00 am until time of the mass. Interment will follow a luncheon at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 2:00-7:00pm at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, a Rosary service will be held at 7:00pm.
In honor of Helen memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s GIFT Fund.
