Born in the humble town of Brinkley, Arkansas, Hen made her way to Flint, Michigan after graduation, carrying with her the southern soul that would warm generations to come. Hen was the heart of our family. A woman whose two-bedroom home somehow had room for everyone. She never closed her door when it came to her family. Hen enjoyed, cooking, traveling, watching tv, playing cards and the lottery but most of all being surrounded by family was her greatest joy. Her strength was matched only by her sweetness, and her love left an imprint on all who knew her.
Her most cherished title was "Granny Hen." Her voicemail said it, and her life proved it. With 30 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons Trumain Holmes of Flint, MI, Willis (Cashmere) Holmes of Flint and her devoted daughter Rotunda Leverette of Fresno, CA who lovingly adjusted her life to care for her mother in her final years, a reflection of the same selfless love Hen gave to so many. Four brothers Donnell (Jacqueline) Holmes, Larry (Marie) Holmes, two sisters Doris (lee) Davis, Ruth Holmes, and close friend Jane Nuby.
On July 30, 2025, the foundation of our family, Henrietta "Granny Hen" Holmes, took her final breath on the birthday of her first born son, five years after his passing. True to her nature, she found a poetic way to remind us that love, family, and timing are always intertwined. She leaves to cherish her parents Rufus and Eva Holmes, sister Evelyn Pitts, Leania Pryor, Laura Holmes, brother Willis Holmes, niece Aretha Pitts and nephew Leandris Davis.
