Henryk Tadeusz BOGDANOWICZ

October 19, 1917 — June 23, 2010

Bogdanowicz, Henryk, age 92, of Fenton, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010. A memorial service will be held 6 PM Monday, June 28, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton with pastor James Wiegand officiating. Visitation will be from 3-6 PM Monday at the funeral home. Henryk was born in Lwow, Poland the son of Henryk and Michalina (Ludwig) Bogdanowicz. Henryk was a graduate of the Korpus Kadetow M.J. Pilsudskiego class of 1938 in Lwow. At the start of WWII he was sent out of Poland ending up in France. He served as a Lieutenant in the 1st Polish Armoured Division under Major-General Stanislaw Maczek. The Division took part in the Battle of Normandy and continued to spearhead the Allied Drive across the battlefields of France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. One of the Division's more poigant tasks was the liberation of the Oberlangen prisoner of war camp which contained some 2, 000 Polish women captured during the Warsaw uprising, and capturing the German port of Wilhelmshaven and accepting the surrender of the entire Nazi garrison. After the war he moved his family to England, coming to the United States in 1953. In the early 1980's he recieved the Virutti Military Order Medal from the Polish Government, in exile in Great Britain. He worked odd jobs and graduated from GMI becoming a Tool and Die Designer. He retired from G.M. in 1982, and proceeded to work another 11 years for private firms. Henryk loved to travel, enjoying life with family and friends. He was ready to celebrate his 35th wedding anniversary with his wife Barbara of Fenton. Also surviving are daughter, Marta Bogdanowicz and husband Bob Rautiola, of Jackson, their daughter Celina and her daughter Evangeline, and their sons, Michael and Davin Rautiola; son, Henryk Z. Bogdanowicz and wife Linda of Swartz Creek, their children, Aaron, Aubrey, Adam; daughter, Anna Avery and husband Stan of Flint; 2 sisters, Irena Wleklinski of Seattle, Washington, Elzbieta Kowalski of Alhambra, California; 2 nieces, Monika Lee and husband Andre, Barbara Kowalski; nephew Andrzej Wleklinski and wife Lorenda, their daughters, Zofia and Renata; and the mother of his 3 childen, Irena Bogdanowicz.
