POWERS, Herman Thomas- Age 97, of Swartz Creek, died Friday, December 13, 2019. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, December 17, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Cliff Bira officiating. Burial will follow in Flushing Cemetery, Flushing. Visitation will be held 6PM - 8PM Monday and 10AM until time of service on Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to Charity of one's choice. Herman was born May 17, 1922 in Thornburg, Arkansas, the son of Otto and Lula (Shamblin) Powers. He married Helen Peters on October 20, 1946 in Flint and she preceded him in death on November 8, 2002. Herman proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He toured in Germany and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars. Herman retired as a Train Master from Grand Trunk Railroad in 1984 with 36 years of service. Mr. Powers was a life member of VFW Post 9643 in Largo FL and enjoyed gardening and going for walks. Surviving are: Children, Linda Herman of TX, Susan (David) Janicki of IN, Steven (Denise) Powers of Flushing, Amy Jo (Jeff) Goldie of FL; grandchildren, Kimberly (Rob) Tichenor, Jennifer (Christopher) Allam, Michael (Sarah) Janicki, Melissa (Joe) Gonzalez, Emily Powers and Nicholas Powers; 8, soon to be 9, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Lula Powers; brother Oscar, sister Florence, and son-in-law Daniel Herman. Special thanks to caregiver, Jessica Schafsnitz.
