Herschell Russell

RUSSELL, Herschell D. -- Age 90, of Flint, died January 21, 2016. Funeral services will be held 12 PM Monday January 25 at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 9252 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Fr. Gene Geromel celebrant. Burial 11 AM Tuesday at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Visitation will be held 1-4PM and 6-8PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, and 11AM until time of service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to St. Bartholomew Altar Guild or Charity of One's Choice. Herschell was born January 22, 1925 in Jonesboro Arkansas the son of Sanford and Jesse (Wayne) Russell. He resided in Flint all his life. He attended Flint Northern High School. Herschell was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII as a Machinist's Mate. He married Lillian E. Granlund on April 10, 1948 in Flint, He was employed at GM V-8 Plant as a Machine Repair Leader/ Master Mechanic. He was a member of the Fluid Power Society, and St Bartholomew's Church. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and was an avid swimmer. He is survived by his wife Lillian; children, Nancy (Dan) Harris of Fenton, Douglas (Diane) Russell of Florida, Norene Leatzow of Flint, Dale (Dianne) of Holly, Noelle (Matthew) Collins of Nicholasville KY; sister in law, Mary Ann Russell of Lapeer; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy Dexel, Helen Ketzler, Elva Pilon; brother, Bill Russell; son in law, Douglas Leatzow; daughter in law, Mary Russell.
