REED, Ida Maxine - Age 90, of Flint, formerly of Flushing, died Friday, April 13, 2018. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Flushing, 5105 N. McKinley Road, Flushing. Pastor Ken Sharp officiating. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek Tuesday from 2-8 PM and at church Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions the First Baptist Church of Flushing Building Fund. She was born Ida Maxine Barber on January 7, 1928 in Bay Shore, MI to George and Marion (Redfield) Barber. She attended the country school in Bay Shore until the 7th grade, and then attended school in Petoskey, MI until the early part of the 10th grade. She moved with her family to Flushing, MI in October 1943 and graduated from Flushing High School in 1943. She married Wallace J. Reed on December 21, 1947, and he died April 9, 1986. They had four children, Randy Lee in 1950, Krista Karol in 1953, Telana Marie in 1957 and Anthony Arden in 1968. Ida was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Flushing since 1944. She was a faithful choir member, served as Deaconess for many years, served as the church clerk for many years, taught two different Sunday school classes, served as Sunday school treasurer for many years, and served on many committees. After the death of her husband Ida became involved in politics. She was elected to the position of Flushing Township Clerk on November 8, 1988, and was elected for three consecutive terms, retirng as clerk in Nov. 21, 2000. She received the Loretta Manwaring memorial award in 1999 in recognition of innovative work practices and dedication to public service. Ida then was elected Flushing Township Trustee in 2000 and served two consecutive terms retiring in 2008. This was an ideal job for her as she really enjoyed the work and the people she worked with and worked for. Ida was a member of several Genesee county associations. She served 12 years as the recording secretary for the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of appeals. Ida leaves her children that she dearly loved, Randy and wife Cheryl Reed, Krista and husband Michael Oshust, of Flint, MI, Anthony and wife Carol Reed of Clearwater, FL. She leaves many loved grandchildren and great grandchildren, She also leaves a brother Nelson and wife Sharon Barber of Sterling Heights, MI; sister, Rena Ocenasek of Flushing. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wallace; daughter, Telana Marie; her sisters, Lena Morris, Alma Mattson, Georgia Taft, and Afton "Peggy" McKone; and brother, William Barber.
