GIBBS, Ila "Jean" (Hale) - Age 92, of Linden, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St, Linden (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via Jean's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Mrs. Natalie Davis officiating. Burial in Downing Cemetery in Deckerville. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
Jean was born November 25, 1933 in Juhl, the daughter of Erwin A. and Bernice (Cummings) Hale. She graduated from Deckerville High School in 1951. She married David R. Gibbs June 9, 1956 in Deckerville and he preceded her in June 20, 1979. They lived in Flint for many years before moving to Grand Blanc; she also lived on an Indian Reservation in Montana for four years as a child and loved to talk about it. She loved talking to people. She later moved to Linden with her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed her family, traveling, doing puzzles, playing games like Spoons and L C R, music, concerts, and watching all sports. She loved to garden and wasn't afraid of getting dirty. Jean loved her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her friends. She was a generous lady and her big personality would light up any room. Jean was generous with her time, money and her chocolate ! She was a grandma to many at her grandchildren's high school and college sporting events, always on the sidelines with her no-bake cookies for everyone to enjoy.
She is survived by her children, Rhonda (Gary) Duke and Bradley (Linda) Gibbs; grandchildren, Kellen (Chelsea) Duke, Kayla (Nick) Bishop, Joshua (Eden) Gibbs, Valerie (Jason) VanLanduyt; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Eleanor Bishop, Jaden, Jordan, and Addie Gibbs, Izabelle and Samuel VanLanduyt; many loving nieces and nephews; and many special family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, brother, Wendell Hale, sister, Faye (Robert) Noble, brother-in-law, Edward "Ted" (Mary Lou) Gibbs.
