Irene Farrow Hudson Russell, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend passed away September 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, laughter and love.
She was reunited with her husband Julius Russell, son, Walter Russell, her parents John and Catharine Hudson (nee Taylor) and sisters Catherine Bibb, Jean Hardendorf.
Born August 5, 1926, in McComb, Mississippi. Irene was the youngest of three girls and she loved and looked up to her older sisters Jean and Catharine. Irene’s father was a journalist for the Times Picayune, and he often traveled a lot with his work. Irene’s mother would take the girls to Natchez, Mississippi to spend time with her parents at the family home Belmont. After the untimely death of her mother, Irene and her sisters moved to Jackson, MS. After a short time the girls moved to Whitehaven, Tennessee (Memphis, Tennessee) to live with their grandparents.
Irene met Julius in Memphis, TN and after a brief courtship, they married on February 27, 1948. They were married 67 years. Julius and Irene settled in Lapeer, Michigan where Julius worked at General Motors. Irene was a homemaker for many years while raising her children. She was a dedicated and devoted mother, and her children were always a priority. She worked hard to keep the home running smoothly and to create a loving home for her family.
Irene had a warm heart with a kind and friendly nature that touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She was always smiling and content wherever she was. She had the rare gift of making everyone feel welcome and at ease. Her home was always open to friends and family to visit. Whether it was a large family gathering or Julius buddies she named the “Coffee Crowd”. She always had the coffee ready for good conversation and fun whoever was there.
Irene is survived by her daughter Anna May (Chris) Davis; daughter Judy (Jim) McAuley; son, Roger (Teresa) Russell; grandson, John Michael McAuley and a granddaughter Machaela Elizabeth Russell.
Irene will be deeply missed by all that knew her but her love for family and her laughter will live on in her family and the hearts she touched.
