Jacob Herbert Gaus "Jack" of Linden passed away August 30, 2026. Jacob was born May 5, 1934, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Alexander and Mary Gaus. He was the husband to Barbara Dahl whom he married on May 18, 1957. Jack graduated from Flint Northern High School, class of 1952. He worked in the family business, Gaus and Sons, and later worked for General Motors as a skilled trades painter until his retirement. Jack loved the Lord and served him in church all of his life playing in the German band, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, serving on the church board, leading Youth Group and Small groups. His early years were spent at First Reformed Church in Flint, as an adult he attended Westwood Heights Free Methodist and most recently was active at Flint Central Nazarene. He was a member of Bible Study Fellowship for many years. Jack enjoyed his family greatly, encouraging and supporting his children’s endeavors, always praying for them. He was a wonderful grandfather and great grandfather and loved spending time with all of the grandchildren who knew him well and enjoyed games nights, celebrations and vacations together. Jack made friends everywhere he went. He was kind, friendly and a help to all. We know he is in heaven with his savior, Jesus, but we will miss him greatly. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Gaus; five children, Jennifer Colberg of Linden, JoEllen (Dr. Donald) Reed of Denver, CO, Julie (Donald) Martin of Linden, Pastor Jonathan (Beth) Gaus of Derby, KS; Dr. Rachel (Rev. Dr. William) Ward of Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren, Allison (Wyatt) McCulley, Suzanna Colberg, Gretchen (Michael) Clancey. Alex (Kaley) Reed, Elise (Daniel) Hester, Eric Martin, Jacob Martin, Julia Martin, Elizabeth (Gabe) Quakkelaar, Gabriel Gaus, Leah Gaus, William Ward, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Ward; great-grandchildren, Colin, Caden, and Colette Clancey, Lucas and Shiloh Hester, Rowan Reed, and Cohler McCully; sister Sharon (Jim) Fouts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Mary Katherine Gaus, brothers, Alex Jr., Donald, and Reuben Gaus; sisters, Ruth Langolf and Dorothy Hiscock; son-in-law, Dr. Douglas Colberg; granddaughter, Devon Colberg; and great-grandson, Alfie Clancey.
