James Charles Devlin, age 86, of Lennon, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Private arrangements were entrusted to Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek.
James was born on October 4, 1938, in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late John and Yvonne (Auclair) Devlin. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose warmth and humor touched the lives of many.
After completing his education at Bendle High School in 1956, James continued at the Flint Junior College, where he earned an associate degree in 1962. He pursued further studies at Western Michigan University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography in 1964. His commitment to service led him to join the United States Marines, where he proudly served for two years immediately after high school. Following a period of civilian life pursuing his education, James reenlisted, this time into the United States Navy in 1965, serving actively until 1968 and completing nearly a decade of military service in the Navy and Army Reserves.
His professional journey spanned several pivotal years at General Motors, where he worked diligently in the Scheduling department, ultimately retiring in 1992. Throughout his career, he was recognized for being well-liked by his colleagues, who appreciated his good sense of humor and easy-going disposition.
James cherished the quiet moments spent with his family, particularly enjoying winters in Arizona with his beloved wife, Carol. He and Carol Eastman united in marriage on June 15, 1963, in Flint, creating a partnership that defined their lives together.
He had a passion for sports, frequently indulging in golfing with friends and playing tennis, activities that brought him joy. His friendly nature and positive attitude made him a delightful presence among those who knew him.
James is survived by his loving daughter, Cyndi Devlin; his son, James (Lisa) Devlin; his grandchildren, Tricia Kaye, Danielle and Anthony; his great-grandson, Jaxson; and his special nephew, Terry (Irena) Yax. In addition to his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by his several siblings.
The family would like to thank the great care team from Compassus Hospice Care. Especially for the extra loving care we received from Justin, Gregg and Angelina and my daily care help from Cheril who was with him (and me) every day during his hospice time.
James Charles Devlin leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and kindness that will continue to uplift those he touched. His memory will be held dear in the hearts of his family and friends as they celebrate a life well-lived. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
