James H. Schlieger, of Flint, passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Swank Home in Swartz Creek. He was 96 years old.
Born March 22, 1929, in Flint, he was the son of John and Catherine (Kildow) Schlieger he was a life-long resident of Flint. James married Joan Haddix on February 25, 1950. He was a member of the Gideons International, International Material Handling Society and Peace Presbyterian Church, where he was very involved in many activities, including singing in the choir. He taught and played accordion for several years. James was a store manager with Spiegel for 25 years before moving to Fraza Equipment as an automotive account executive. He retired in 1997 after 25 years of service.
James is survived by his children, James E. Schlieger and his wife Debbie of Swartz Creek and June Alexander of Flint; four grandchildren and their families, Jill Schlieger and her fur kids, Stacey Cole and husband Danny and their fur kids, Jeff and Susan Hall and children Kristen, Edgar and Killian and Clint and Heather Hall and their children Mallory, Taylor and Landon and grand-dog Jewel; one sister-in-law Shirley Haddix and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joan Schlieger; granddaughter Lynette Schlieger, sister and brother-in-law Arlene and Roland Haight, sister-in-laws and brother-in- laws Joyce and Ernie Fournier, Barb and Don Miller, brother-in-law Don Haddix and sister in law Lucille Locke.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 12:00pm at Peace Presbyterian Church, 1521 North Elms Road in Flint with Pastor Dan Rose presiding. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. There will be visitation from 10:00am until time of the service.
