James Smith Jr.

SMITH, James Thomas Jr. -- Age 80, of Flint Township, died August 8, 2022. A public memorial service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, August 14 at Burton Eagles, 3317 E. Bristol Road, Burton. Private burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek.

James was born December 17, 1941 in Flint the son of James Thomas and Ialene (Gardner) Smith . He was a veteran of the US Army. He married Shirley McKee on November 26, 1965. He worked in construction. He coached football, baseball, and basketball for many years at Carman-Ainsworth, Atherton and Ainsworth High Schools. He was an avid Bowler, and lived for sports, that was his life.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith; 2 children, Eric (Kelly) Smith of Flint Township, Becky Smith of Flint Township; grandchildren, Courtney, Tyler, Riley, Devon (Ashley) Ashton and Brandon; great grandchildren, Harlon and Paxton; brother, Jon Cable; sisters, Pamela, Jill, Kathy; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nichole Smith; brother, Raymond "Bucky" Smith. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
