Jean Valerie SHERWOOD

SHERWOOD, Jean Valerie - Age 90, of Flushing, died February 16, 2014 at home with her family. Valerie was born October 25, 1923 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada the daughter of Samuel Allen Marshall and Irene (Holcomb) Marshall. She then moved with her family to Roanoke Virginia where she lived until she was 18. She then moved to Flint where she married Orville Dawson Sherwood on February 8, 1943; he preceded her in death August 6, 2004. She attended the Hurley School of Nursing and Mott College. She worked as a Medical Record Librarian and Secretary to the Chief of Staff at McLaren General Hospital retiring in 1981 with 20 years of service. After she retired from McLaren, she served as a consultant at several nursing homes in Genesee County. Services will be held at 12 Noon, on Friday February 21 at the Flushing United Methodist Church , 413 E. Main St., Flushing, Pastor Jeff Jaggers officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the service. Valerie was a volunteer for the Bay Valley Hospice and the Easter Seal Society. She also was a member of the Foxy Feet Dancers and the Golden Rollers. In addition she competed in the Ms. Senior Michigan Pageant in 1995. She was a member of the Flushing United Methodist Church for many years, where she served as a Stephen Minister and belonged to the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed reading, being with her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved playing the piano and enjoyed all kinds of music. She loved politics and political discussions. Surviving are: children, Nancy Harrison of Flushing, Thomas D. Sherwood of Swartz Creek; grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Harrison and wife Dr. Tina Harrison, Jason Sherwood and wife Kristine, DeeAnn Sherwood, Dr. John Sherwood and wife Dr. Reba Sherwood; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Sydney, Kendall, Parker, Reese, Vanessa, Zackery, Maxwell, Sophia, Jenna, and Lucy. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; son William; son-in-law Warren Harrison; daughter-in-law, Edie Sherwood.
